CM Punk Talks His Transition From WWE To MMA, If He Thinks About A Wrestling Return, Being A Draw
Despite being off WWE TV for over a year now, former champion CM Punk isn't quite out of the spotlight. WTMJ in Milwaukee caught up with CM Punk and his MMA trainer Duke Roufus to talk about the switch from WWE to UFC.
When the move was announced, many fighters and fans resented Punk, saying he didn't deserve the opportunity to fight in the UFC. Punk refuses to discredit those people.
"I agree with them," Punk said. "My job is to put asses in seats. Am I going to win or be successful? I can't say that. 6 months, 8 months, 10 months, I'm confident that I'm going to walk out and shock the world."
Despite his inexperience, Punk told WTMJ that MMA is something he's always wanted to try.
"It's something I've wanted to do for a very long time. Training was always difficult because I was on the road 8 days a week. The opportunity presented itself," Punk said.
Punk's trainer Duke Roufus was also asked about Punk's ambitious move:
"Steve Jobs said it best, 'Only the crazy ones accomplish crazy things," Roufus said. "Him doing this at 36 impresses me. I see some potential matchups in the UFC I already like for him."
Despite the praise from his coach, Punk's ego seems to be in check.
"I know I'm the last guy in line and the lowest guy on the totem pole, but nobody treats me that way either.
When asked about a potential return to wrestling, Punk said "I don't think about it all," in an abbreviated answer edited to fit the segment.
Punk was non-committal when talking about what entrance theme he would be using. You can see the full video above
