UFC Fight Night 60 Results: Ben Henderson Debuts At Welterweight, Several Big Win Streaks Extended
The UFC machine kept rolling as the company put forth a sad Valentine's Day effort with their UFC Fight Night 60 card. Injuries ravaged the event, forcing Tarec Saffiedine and Stephen Thompson from the already thin card and causing Matt Brown to be moved to UFC 185. Fortunately for the UFC, former Lightweight champion Ben Henderson stepped up on short notice to face highly touted prospect Brandon Thatch in the only noteworthy fight on the card.
Ben Henderson took on the huge welterweight Thatch and looked overmatched early. Despite keeping it close, Henderson was having a problem with range and by round 2 Thatch looked to be in control. That, however, rarely leaves the first round and Henderson gained the advantage with a number of body shots and takedowns. With a minute left in the fourth round Henderson derailed the Brandon Thatch hype train in front of the prospect's home town.
After the fight, Henderson wouldn't commit to returning to 155 pounds. Instead, he said that he'd like to fight Rory MacDonald in Canada since he's without a fight.
Former Conor McGregor opponent Max Holloway has put that fight behind him, as he handled veteran Cole Miller on his way to his fifth straight victory. The 23 year old Holloway already has 11 fights in the UFC and an insane amount of upside. He'll be facing #5-ranked Cub Swanson on Fox in April.
Elsewhere, Neil Magny won his sixth straight UFC fight with a submission win over Kiichi Kunimoto. Just 13 months ago Magny was fighting for his UFC career as he'd lost two fights in a row. With his win Saturday night, he has as many wins in under 13 months as UFC Heavyweight Champion Cain Velasquez's past five years. He hopes to join the stacked UFC welterweight rankings with his win.
Henderson and Thatch walked away with Fight of the Night honors, while Ray Borg and Neil Magny bagged the performance bonuses. All four left with an additional $50,000.
