Kurt Angle Talks TNA Contract Details, Brock Lesnar, Possibly Going Back To WWE, UFC Negotiations
Kurt Angle appeared on this week's MMA Hour episode with Ariel Helwani to promote his TNA World Title match with Bobby Lashley. Angle also spoke about several other topics, including his TNA contract, and what his plans are when it's up.
Angle revealed the details of his TNA contract, which calls for 40 dates over the course of a year. Helwani asked Angle about his motivation for sticking with TNA over other possiblities in free agency last year.
"They gave me everything I wanted and more, and that's why I stayed. They were very loyal. I can't do enough to repay them. The old man can still go, but not as many nights per year," Angle said
Angle also spoke of his future in wrestling, and hasn't ruled out a WWE return after his TNA contract expires at the end of the year.
"If I do go one more year, I'll hang it up. Where I am now, I'm happy going out the way I'm doing it. I've had a great career in WWE and TNA. I can honestly say I've had a better career in TNA. If I wouldn't have went to TNA, I would have regretted not wrestling some of the guys I did. If I decide to go to WWE next year, that will be my last year, but I'm happy where I'm at," Angle said.
Angle said he thought that the move to Destination America was more about promotion. Angle felt that TNA was promoting Spike's other shows, and not getting a fair return. He said while he was originally disappointed not as many people were seeing his TNA work as his WWE work, he's come to terms with it.
Angle was considering going to the UFC and IFL, and said he considered doing MMA until he was about 42 years old. He said Dana White wanted him to quit wrestling entirely right after signing with TNA, and Angle said he couldn't do that.
"He wanted me to be on the Ultimate Fighter with Kimbo. He was willing to pay me a good deal of money to be on there, and some other guys aren't getting paid anything to be on there. But he wanted me to be ready in four and a half weeks. It wasn't in the cards, unfortunately. He was willing to sign me to a six-fight deal after the show, but he wanted me on the show," said Angle.
Angle also said that that Dana White hoped to book a fight with Daniel Puder, but Angle wasn't willing to walk out on TNA. Angle's MMA ties may not be completely over, however, as he also revealed that he may end up signing with WSOF as an announcer.
Angle compared Bobby Lashley to Lesnar, and said that if Lashley stuck to either MMA or wrestling, he could be the best at either. He also said that he feels that Lesnar will fight again, it just may be after signing another WWE deal.
