NJPW On AXS Results (3/27): Nakamura Vs. Tanahashi, Two Championship Matches

During last week's show, we saw Nakamura vs. Tanahashi from Wrestle Kingdom 8, with Tanahashi taking the Intercontinental Title, this week we get their re-match from Invasion Attack 2014.

This match isn't shown in it's entirety, but is joined mid-way through. There's a lot of back and forth action until Ishii got the win with a big brainbuster. Again, not a full match, but worth a watch.

The two go through a chain series that sees neither main gain the advantage. The series lasts several minutes, and the crowd boos Tanahashi as he goes for some cheap tactics. Nakamura gets tripped up and has his leg taken across the ring post. Tanahashi works over Nakamura's leg outside the ring, trying to take away the Boma Ye. He follows up with more of the same inside the ring.

The two trade strikes on their feet, but Tanahashi keeps going back to Nakamura's leg. Nakamura throws some kicks, but favors his leg while doing it. Nakamura hits his signature knees to Tanahashi, who is draped over the top rope. Nakamura goes for his sleeper suplex, but Tanahashi escapes and attacks Nakamura's knee.

Nakamura is sent outside and is caught with a giant High Fly Flow. Back inside Nakamura hits a lungblower, but hurts himselfin the process. Nakamura goes for the suplex again, but Tanahashi flips through it and chop blocks the leg of Nakamura. Out of nowhere, Nakamura hits a Boma Ye, only gets a two count out of it. He sets up for another and gets dropkicked in the knee.

Tanahashi connects with a High Fly Flow, and tries to go for another but Nakamura sacrifices his own health to get his knees up. They trade punches again, and it has the same result as previously, with Tanahashi attacking Nakamura's leg. He also hits a Slingblade and a dragon suplex that doesn't get the three count.

Nakamura locks in an armbar, and he has it in tight. He has the hold applied for well over a minute before Tanahashi can break free. Nakamura scores a Boma Ye from the second rope and another from the ground that can't finish the match. A third one does the trick to finish an awesome match.

Winner: Shinsuke Nakamura via pinfall (Boma Ye) to win the IWGP Intercontinental Championship

- Tanahashi has to be helped to the back as Nakamura celebrates in the ring. Nakamura's MMA foe Daniel Gracie gets in the ring and challenges him to a match. Kazushi Sakuraba shows up and says he owes the Gracies and wants to fight them. Nakamura agrees to both and tells everyone to leave.
