Ronda Rousey's Next Opponent, UFC Champion Injured, Anderson Silva/Nick Diaz Drug Test Update
- After Ronda Rousey's 14-second destruction of Cat Zingano, many speculated that the UFC Women's Bantamweight champion would take an extended break and allow the division to sort itself out. That doesn't appear to be the case, as Tatame is reporting that Rousey has scheduled a bout
Unbeaten Brazilian Bethe Correia will fight in her home country, taking on Rousey at the August 1 UFC 190 card from Rio de Janeiro. Rousey had previously stated she wanted to face Correia in Brazil due to the unique dynamic it would cause.
Correia has made a name for herself by knocking off training partners of Rousey's on her way to a title shot. Correia defeated fellow "Four Horsewomen" members in Jessamyn Duke and Shayna Baszler last year.
- New UFC Lightweight Champion Rafael dos Anjos will be on the shelf for at least three months due to a partial tear in his MCL. Perhaps even more suprisingly, dos Anjos fought and dominated former champion Anthony "Showtime" Pettis at UFC 185 after already sustaining the injury. The injury will not require surgery, as dos Anjos will go through a rehab program instead.
- In an update in the Anderson Silva/Nick Diaz failed drug test saga, both men were granted a continuance by the Nevada State Athletic Commission for their hearings. Both fighters are facing fines and suspensions for failing drug tests in relation to their UFC 183 bouts. The hearings are likely to take place in April.
