Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson Sets Unbreakable Record On Way To Successful UFC 186 Title Defense
Demetrious "Mighty Mouse" Johnson earned his position as a top 3 pound-for-pound fighter. His ranking in the division was ahead of names such as Anderson Silva, Cain Velasquez, Anthony Pettis, Ronda Rousey. He's cleaned out his division. There's almost no one left.
John Dodson, Ian McCall, Joseph Benavidez (twice), John Moraga all fell. Even lesser ranked fighters like Chris Cariaso and Ali Bagautinov couldn't knock Johnson off. In Ali's case, he even tested positive for EPO and didn't get the job done. Others like John Lineker and Henry Cejudo haven't made weight consistently enough to even challenge.
In the flyweight division, winning three fights in a row in the UFC is enough to earn a crack at the title. Kyoji Horiguchi did just that, and wasn't given much of a chance to beat the Flyweight kingpin Johnson at UFC 186.
Horiguchi saw some early success, but that good fortune quickly turned as Johnson landed over a dozen takedowns. Mighty Mouse utilized his seemingly infinite gas tank to knock the challenger down a few pegs.
History was made in the fifth round, as Johnson used a crucifix to open up several strikes to Horiguchi's head. Johnson quickly transitioned to an armbar and gained the submission at 4:59 of round 5, with only one second left in the fight. This was the latest submission in UFC history, a record that is virtually unbreakable.
Make no mistake, the 24-year old Kyoji Horiguchi will be back. The youngster was a victim of a shallow division and getting a shot far too early. For now, Johnson's reign of terror will continue, with him likely facing the winner of next month's Zach Makovsky-John Dodson fight.
