AJ Styles Talks About The Prestige Of The IWGP Title, Love Of NJPW, His Schedule In Japan, More
AJ Styles spoke to Bill Apter yesterday about the prestige of the IWGP Championship, which he currently holds. You can read the highlights below:
On the IWGP Heavyweight Championship being a true world title:
"They don't like to say 'Heavyweight champion of the world,' but I literally take that belt all over the world with me, and I'll defend it. I would say the most prestigious belt in the world, the IWGP Heavyweight Championship"
The prestige of the title:
"I've been watching New Japan Pro Wrestling ever since I got into the business, and I've been hooked. Just that title, it's an icon in wrestling. So many guys have had this championship that are big names today that people wouldn't think."
Favorite IWGP Champions:
"There were a couple, I'd definitely say Muta. Hashimoto. The list goes on and on. It's burned in to my brain how special that title is, and the matches they had for it. To be the man that holds that title means the world to me."
His schedule in Japan:
"It does vary. Sometimes I go over for one match, sometimes I go over for a couple of weeks. It is hard, I have a big family. Being away from them is hard, but the harder I work now, the less I have to work later."
Styles and Apter go on to talk about AJ's family, and if he'd ever let his children go into wrestling later in life. You can see the full video above, or at this link.
