Booker T Talks Wrestlers Like Dean Ambrose Not Lasting Long, Talent "Phoning It In", Daniel Bryan
WWE Hall of Famer Booker T recently stopped by The Troy Show and talked about the allegations and lawsuits WWE is facing regarding the health of wrestlers, Byron Saxton, CM Punk and more. Booker also shares in the full interview the biggest mistake he ever made in his career, his thoughts on his WCW career, why he wanted to be better than Chris Jericho and Eddie Guerrero, and whether superstars should get endorsements. You can listen to the show on iTunes or Stitcher, they sent us these highlights:
Talent Wanting to be in the business:
"I don't think they want it. I think they are they are just happy to be a part of it. For me, I wasn't happy being a part of it. I knew this was going to be my legacy that I had a chance to leave if I was going to make it in this business. I wanted to make a big impact and people would remember (me) for many many years and mention my name among the greats."
John Cena:
"Cena's great, he trained from the old school. He goes out there and performs that's all he does. He doesn't have any great moves or anything. He's an old school wrestler; He has the art of doing nothing down."
Dean Ambrose and Recent NXT Injuries:
"I look at guys like Dean Ambrose and they throw caution to the wind every single week and I go wow how long will these guys be able to do this? I lasted 20 years. I don't think a lot of those guys will be able to last that long . I think these young guys have to think a little bit better about how they are going to perform. They've made it. I could have done the Harlem hangover until I was 40? People didn't just want to see that, they wanted to see me perform."
Daniel Bryan:
"He's a guy the ultimate competitor. He performs on a high level every night and you know he came off the road and the house shows and then Monday Night he's out there doing it at the high level again. We see what kind of shape (Bryan) is in right now. I understand Bryan; when you are young you think you are invincible. You don't think you can get hurt."
Being Physical in the ring:
"The guys today; I don't think they really know what it means (To be physical in the ring). I wanted to make sure there wasn't air between my punches. I'd rather bust a guy's lip than not. The guys today seems like they go out there and phone it in."
Byron Saxton and the state of commentary in WWE:
"People get on me on twitter all the time, but the really don't know what we are going through out there. I'm sure Byron is going to bounce right back and get right back in the saddle."
WWE Doctors and Knowing if you are working injured or hurt:
"Me having a pinched nerve and being injured; one thing I've always said and guys in the business understand the rule. If your hurt you work that's just part of it. If your injured you can't work that just part of it. I've heard people make claims and even CM Punk talk about having his issues and them (WWE Doctors/Officials) telling him he's got to go out there to work. If you go out there and work, as smart as you are, you should know the difference. You should know your own body. If I am injured I am going to tell you I'm injured and I'm going home and I'll deal with the consequences of going home."
