The Rock's "San Andreas" Opens Big And Tops Revised Estimates, Rock Comments On Film's Success

The Rock's new movie, San Andreas, topped yesterday's revised estimates and opened to $53.2 million this weekend. It is the biggest opening for The Rock for a film in which he played the leading role.

Original estimates had the movie opening at $40 million, but that was revised yesterday to $47 million. It grossed nearly $40 million more this weekend than the #2 film, Pitch Perfect 2 (which features Lana in a small role), which took in $14.8 million.

"Whenever you exceed expectations in this world, you have to feel good about it," Dan Fellman, Warner Bros. president of domestic distribution, told the L.A. Times. "This movie is going to have some strong legs."
