The Rock Starring In Potential Major Movie Franchise
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that The Rock has been tapped to star in DreamWorks' Alpha Squad Seven, a sci-fi action comedy.
The project is described as a four-quadrant action-comedy adventure set in space, something similar to Guardians of the Galaxy, Armageddon and Independence Day. The movie is meant to serve a two-hander as well as the launch for a potential franchise.
The project just got going two weeks ago and producers approached The Rock and his 7 Bucks Productions company, which fast-tracked the development of the idea. Producer Beau Flynn is one of the people heading up the project and he's worked with Rock on Journey 2, Hercules and San Andreas. The Rock's ex-wife Dany Garcia of the Garcia Companies will executive produce while Hiram Garcia will associate produce through the 7 Bucks Productions company.
Several studios were bidding on the movie but it came down to DreamWorks and Paramount with DreamWorks aggressively pursuing it. This could be another huge gig for The Rock as they are hoping it will be another top franchise.
