Triple H Speaks On Keeping Up With NXT, Building The Brand, What His Original Plans Were For NXT
Tonight is the latest step forward in WWE's attempt to make NXT a standalone brand. The special event NXT Takeover: Unstoppable has been heavily hyped by the company, as we've seen multiple NXT stars on Raw in the past several weeks. In addition to this, Wrestling Inc had the chance to speak directly to Triple H about NXT yesterday.
We asked the WWE COO if his plan was always to develop NXT in to a separate brand from NXT. The company now has plans to tour throughout the country, and are hoping to do live events internationally in 2016. Triple H said that while he had lofty aspirations for the NXT brand, he kept those thoughts to himself until he knew that it was something he could execute.
"I wanted to do it from day one. The question was, could I do it?," Triple H told us. "So I didn't really tell anyone because I didn't know if I could do it. As the business has change and evolved, I've always felt like this needed to exist. Going out and doing it is different than going out and talking about it."
NXT's popularity exploded on the back of its unique characters and in-ring action. Triple H said that he had expected it to do well, but now is rising at a pace that he can barely keep up with. Triple H handles the day-to-day duties of NXT in addition to his role with WWE.
"The idea was there long before the popularity of it. It's all been very strategic to get to a certain place. That being said, lightning in a bottle. Sometimes I feel like I'm just holding on to the tail of NXT as it races up the road, trying not to lose control of it," said Triple H.
Wrestling Inc will have full, live coverage of NXT Takeover: Unstoppable tonight at 8 pm eastern.
