Shawn Michaels Talks Triple H, Marty Jannetty, Bret Hart, NXT, Who He Would Work With Now, More
Shawn Michaels appeared on The Apter chat with Bill Apter this week, and spoke about his career, as well as his new book "Wrestling for my Life." You can read the highlights below and see the video above.
* Shawn Michaels says he's never seen the movie Heartbreak Kid, and says people always ask him about the new one all the time. He says the nickname came from Curt Hennig saying it on TV. Afterwards, Hennig let him know he used the line, and at the time Michaels didn't imagine himself being the character he ended up being.
* Michaels said Bill Apter's magazines helped get him his job in the AWA. He and Marty met Verne Gagne, but he didn't understand the concept of The Rockers. He said while Verne was traditional, Greg understood it.
* He says that he and Jannetty rubbed a lot of people the wrong way. He says that he and Jannetty live worlds apart now, and Jannetty occasionally texts him. He says contrary to popular belief, he and Triple H don't talk every day.
* He says the mood at Monday Night Raw and NXT are night and day, and it's because of the work Triple H has put in. He notes that even Triple H's critics have positive things to say about him since he's been running NXT.
* When he is asked about who he would want to work with, he immediately mentions Daniel Bryan. He remembers going to Bryan and Brian Kendrick that they'd go through a lot of the same things he did, but cream always rises to the top. He also mentions Seth Rollins, Dean Ambrose, Sting, CM Punk as guys he's wanted to work with.
* Shawn Michaels said he wouldn't have left if he wasn't ready to leave. He says he's enjoying his life after wrestling. He said they have a ton of animals and he loves the experience.
* Michaels talks about his religion, and Bill Apter said that he knew HBK well before this and it was like a completely different person.
* Steve Austin, Triple H and The Undertaker all wrote forewords for HBK's book. He said they were all moving and he's happy about where those friendships are now considering where they were at an earlier point in his life.
* He says his life is more about the relationship with his wife and children than wrestling now. He says he's content and at peace with himself. He's not trying to force another career.
* He says he spent his career earning money, and then has been offered a ton of money to work one night.
* Apter asks about him hunting when he has so many animals, and the mixed messages that may send his family. Michaels says that simply not everyone hunts.
* Michaels talks about controlling the animal population on his ranch. He says he'd rather have a bullet put in his head than be eaten. He says it is possible to be an animal lover and a hunter. He knows where he stands on the food chain.
* He says that he and Bret Hart are on good terms. They speak to each other on holidays and see each other at conventions.
* They plug Shawn's book "Wrestling for my Life," as the video ends.
