Sweet Chin Music In UFC (Video), UFC Fight Night 68 Bonuses, Attendance And Gate, Fighter Retres
- UFC Heavyweight Shawn Jordan got a ton of attention last night following his TKO victory over Derrick Lewis at UFC Fight Night 68. During the bout, Jordan rocked Lewis with a technique similar to Shawn Michaels' Sweet Chin Music, which led him to several world championships in professional wrestling. Jordan followed Lewis to the floor and finished the fight shortly after that.
In the world of MMA, the technique is known as a hook kick, and is rarely seen in the UFC. Perhaps the most noteworthy instance of the move is journeyman Shannon Ritch's knockout of John Wood on the regional circuit in 2008.
- Speaking of Jordan, he earned $50,000 for his impressive knockout, as he took home a Performance of the Night bonus. Dustin Poirier won the other Performance of the Night Bonus, while Brian Ortega and Thiago Tavares earned fight of the night honors for their back and forth, bloody battle. The fighters were selected over Bantamweight Francisco Rivera, who publicly begged for a bonus.
UFC Fight Night 68 drew 6,231 fans, to a total gate of $621,523.
- After his loss on the show last night, Brian Ebersole announced his retirement last night. He had 70 fights on his professional record. Ebersole won his first four fights in the UFC, before dropping 3 of his last four, to end his UFC career with a 5-3 record.
