Exclusive Details On Magnus' TNA Contract And When He Decided To Leave, Unusual Provision

Former TNA World Heavyweight Champion Magnus was one of many stars to leave the company at the end of June, leaving TNA with a much different looking roster than just a week prior. I had the chance to speak to Magnus, who revealed details about why he left, and an special no-cut provision in his TNA deal.

"It was my decision. The way my contract was structured, without getting too detailed, they couldn't release me. There was something in there that prevented that, which was nice," Magnus told me.

Magnus also said that he had started to make the decision roughly a year ago. Despite being one of the higher paid talents on the roster, he felt as if his time in TNA was drawing to a close. He gave his notice at the beginning of June, but said he was more than happy to finish up at Slammiversary.

"(My contract) was due to roll over at the end of June. At the beginning of June I decided to give them notice that they hadn't contacted me regarding anything. It was structured that if they hadn't made contact about it a month out, I had the option to end it," explained Magnus.

The former TNA World Champion said that he didn't feel like he had blindsided the company, as they knew how he felt. He also said that TNA was likely to have issues fulfilling his deal due to the nature of the contract.

"I think they knew how I felt, and I knew they were in a position financially where it was getting difficult for them to honor contracts like mine. Not trying to disclose too much, but I got it on pretty good authority from the office that I was in the upper echelon as pay is concerned. I knew they weren't in a position to offer the same structure. A year ago I had made peace with the idea of leaving. I always delivered everything they gave me whether I liked it or not.I knew in my gut a year ago I wasn't going to stay."

Make sure to check back next week for our interview with Magnus.
