New Japan Pro Wrestling On AXS Results: AJ Styles, Shinsuke Nakamura, Tanahashi, Okada In Action
Welcome to Wrestling Inc's coverage of NJPW on AXS. Tonight's shows feature matches from the 2014 G1 Climax Tournament. This is a more condensed version of NJPW on AXS, as they show highlights of four matches.
- We see clips of Shinsuke Nakamura vs. Yuji Nagata, which was a really hard hidding battle with really stiff kicks. Nagata turned Nakamura inside out with a big German suplex and a Backdrop, but wasn't able to put SwagSuke away. A couple of Boma Ye strikes win it for Nakamura.
- We get highlights of AJ Styles vs. Tetsuya Naito. Styles looked like he was 25 again in this match. Styles holds a headlock forever, and Naito gets busted open big time during the match. Naito ends up winning the match clean. These two really went at it hard.
- Next are highlights of Bullet Club's Karl Anderson taking on Okada. Kazuchika's Okada's athleticism is really on display, as he hits his big dropkicks and flying elbow, but Anderson blocks his Rainmaker. Anderson almost gets the win with a Running Liger Bomb, but Okada kicks out. An awesome series of reversals ends in Anderson hitting the Gun Stun for the upset win.
Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Shibata
The two get tangled, and make a clean break, but Shibata smacks Tanahashi across the face, which Tanahashi gives him a receipt for. Shibata tries to take Tanahashi out with kicks, but gets bounced from the ring. Tanahashi follows him outside with a slingshot body press and rolls him back in the ring. Tanahashi gets sent out by a kick from Shibata.
Outside the ring Shibata lands a big suplex and tosses Tanahashi back in where he scores with several big kicks. The two go back and forth for several minutes, culminating in Shibata connecting with a big time knee to the chest. Shibata absolutely pummels Tanahashi in the corner, and hits a German suplex but only gets a two count.
Tanahashi manages to lock on a Texas Cloverleaf, and then goes to work on the leg of Shibata. He misses a High Fly Flow, and the crowd is firmly behind Shibata. The two trade huge strikes, and Tanashahi almost wins with a small package. Shibata with a GTS and a PK for the win. Fantastic match.
Winner: Shibata via pinfall (PK)
