Renee Young Says She Didn't Want WWE To Change Her Name, Explains The Process
WWE interviewer and host Renee Young appeared on Chris Jericho's Talk Is Jericho podcast recently, and discussed her transition from traditional television hosting to the world of WWE. She noted that when she was signed, she didn't realize she'd have to change her name.
"I think it's just a thing they do with everybody," Young, real name Renee Paquette explained. "I thought with me coming in as an announcer, it's not like I'm going to have merchandise that they're going to make money off of, but I think it's just a rights thing. I definitely cried one time about changing my name. Now I kind of just deal with it."
Young said that is took some adapting to get used to a name change after establishing hers on television for a long time, and still has issues.
"I never know what name to give people. I had no idea my name was going to be changed, it wasn't a part of the deal."
She also said that initially her name was supposed to be Renee Sterling, but she nixed the idea and gave a few of her own.
"I got an e-mail that said Renee Sterling, and I kind of had a meltdown because I didn't like it at all," Young said. "It sounded like some weird sexy secretary. I gave them a bunch of different names to choose from and luckily they were lenient, and I landed on Young, after Neil Young."
