Roddy Piper Talks To TMZ About Hulk Hogan, Hogan Getting Trolled On Twitter, WWE Racism Media
- As noted, WWE Hall of Famer Roddy Piper appeared on The Rich Eisen Show last week and was asked about the recent controversy regarding Hulk Hogan's racist comments. Piper offered several strange responses, including talking about going to Madison Square Garden with "16,000 Puerto Ricans with knives and great radios," and being at Mexican restaurants with "gringo burgers."
TMZ caught up with Piper, which you can watch in the video above, and his response to the Hogan controversy was a lot more lucid this time. Piper said that Hogan wasn't a racist and sympathized with his situation.
"1) It was a privacy issue in his own home, 2) his son was going through a really rough time," Piper said of when Hogan made the comments. "He's trying to take care of his daughter, he's trying to keep his family together... Do I condone it? No. But I think Hulk Hogan has done a whole lot more toward society than he has negative to our society."
- The Guardian has an article here about the Hogan controversy, stating that professional wrestling has played on racism for a long time. It looks at some of the past angles in WWE using racial stereotypes and stated that "the account of Hulk Hogan's alleged outburst is just the latest expression of professional wrestling's deep-seated problem with prejudice."
- It should be noted that a lot of the messages of support with photos that Hogan has been re-tweeting have been fake tweets featuring pictures of soccer / football players. One even features popular hip hop artist Drake. You can check out some of the fake tweets below along with who is actually listed in the photo in bold above the tweet:
