Still No UFC 191 Main Event?, TUF 21 Finale Bonuses And Top Earner, UFC Rankings Movement
- Last night's TUF 21 Finale followed UFC 189 without much fanfare, but the stars for the event still walked away with $50,000 performance bonuses. Stephen "Wonderboy" Thompson, Josh Samman, Kamaru Usman and Jorge Masvidal were all awarded "Performance of the Night" bonuses.
Masvidal walked away with a staggering $162,000 in disclosed pay, bonuses and Reebok sponsorship money for his fight, easily making him the highest earner on the show. Masvidal has won 7 of his last nine fights.
- The weekend's events also caused major changes in the official UFC rankings. The aforementioned Masvidal fell out of the lightweight rankings as he debuted at Welterweight, allowing former featherweight Dustin Poirier to appear. Welterweight Stephen Thompson (#9) and Gunnar Nelson (#11) also improved their place in the Welterweight rankings. Prospect Thomas Almeida also improved, moving to #10 as a Bantamweight.
Michelle Waterson debuted in the Women's Strawweight rankings at #12, while Jeremy Stephens jumped up to #8 in the featherweight rankings despite not making weight. Conor McGrewgor also went to #1 in the featherweight rankings, as well as #14 in the pound-for-pound top 15.
- With less than two months before UFC 191, the UFC uncharacteristically doesn't have a main event announced for the show. According to ESPN's Brett Okamoto, he spoke to Lorenzo Fertitta, who said the company was still "working on it."
@FrontRowBrian I asked Fertitta. "We're working on it."
