Bob Orton, Greg Valentine, Paul Orndorff Talk To Bill Apter About Roddy Piper's Death
Legendary wrestling journalist Bill Apter has released several videos of him speaking to WWE Hall of Famers about the passing of former WWE Intercontinental Champion "Rowdy" Roddy Piper.
Apter first spoke to "Cowboy" Bob Orton, who served as Piper's right hand man throughout the 1980's. Orton played a role in several major feuds for Piper, including being involved in WrestleMania I in 1985. Orton was seen wearing his signature cast by Piper's side.
"He was someone who always tried to enjoy life. He tried everything at the same time. He worried a lot," Orton said in the video, which you can see above. "He always tried to work his way around to being the top dog."
"Mr. Wonderful" Paul Orndoff also spoke to Apter, and was another Hall of Fame talent who had a rich history with Piper. Orndorff teamed with Piper to take on Hulk Hogan and Mr. T during the first WrestleMania event.
"It brought tears to my eyes. He was a friend of mine. In my book, there was nobody better at doing interviews than Roddy Piper. He was the best. He helped me quite a bit on my interviews and stuff. We were pretty darn close. I loved him like a brother," Orndorff said in the videos, which you can see below.
Fellow WWE Hall of Famer Greg "The Hammer" Valentine also spoke with Apter. Valentine was one of Piper's most notorious foes, known for their dog collar matches in the early 1980's.
"There was no indication as far as I can tell that anything was wrong. It was so abrupt. Roddy was right next to me at comic-con, and when he'd shake people's hands, he was so personal," Valentine said in the video, which you can see below.
