NXT Stars Could Start Receiving PPV Bonuses
According to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, NXT talent have not been receiving bonuses for NXT shows with larger gates than usual. NXT talents worked San Jose's event and drew over 5,000, and the company did not supply talents with a percentage of the gates from the show.
The reasons given in the Observer as to why the company didn't give the talents a percentage of gates is because the developmental territory operates at a loss. During the live events throughout Florida, NXT averages 200-300 fans, and is used as an experience tool.
The Observer mentioned that the live gate for NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn will be around $700,000 for selling out the 13,000 seat Barclays Center. This number is significantly higher than the numbers the company pulled when touring in Philadelphia, Ohio and San Jose.
The Observer speculated that with the large gate for this weekend's show, the policy on special event bonuses could change. It's worth noting that this doesn't necessarily apply to people such as Kevin Owens who are on a main roster contract, as he could be bonused anyway.
The WWE's philosophy on the matter in the past has been that the stars in NXT under developmental contracts are being paid to learn.
Wrestling Inc will have full, live coverage of NXT TakeOver: Brooklyn this Saturday night.
