Steve Austin And UFC Champion Talk CM Punk's Progress, Brock Lesnar

On this week's edition of the Steve Austin Show – Unleashed!, Stone Cold Steve Austin talked to UFC Light Heavyweight Champion, Daniel Cormier. Austin and Cormier discussed a couple of WWE Superstars turned UFC fighters, namely, CM Punk and Brock Lesnar.

On Punk, Cormier said, "Phil [Brooks] is a great guy. He's so smart, a different type of guy." Cormier went on to say that Punk "is one of the greatest Money in the Bank briefcase holders of all time."

With respect to Punk's progress in training for his MMA debut, Cormier claimed, "what I hear is he's doing fine." As for Punk's training regimen, Cormier believes that it "sounds great" and that he thinks "it is a great approach".

"I hear that what he's doing is he's going through the team at Roufusport, so he started with the lowest guy on the totem pole. He gets to walk to the octagon, they let him walk, they let him spar three rounds like he's in a fight, and then they judge it and see how he does. And as he gets better, he progresses to the next guy."

Cormier said Punk "doesn't necessarily have that build, that mystique behind him like Brock [Lesnar] because Brock is so big" and went on to share his initial thoughts on Brock Lesnar.

"I met Brock Lesnar in 1998. I was in Colby Community College; Brock was wrestling for Bismarck [State] College, and I was like, 'wow, who is that big biscuit in the heavyweight division winning the national championship?' It was Brock Lesnar! Then I went to Oklahoma State and he wrestled for Minnesota and I saw this dude at every turn. Then, when I got in the UFC, I saw Brock Lesnar once in California. This was after he went back to WWE. He was in the back with Paul Heyman. No, with Marty, Marty Morgan, and he asked Marty, he goes, 'is that Cormier? He's tiny' and I saw him mouth that I was tiny because I was a heavyweight at the time, but I was like, 'holy s–t, look at the size of this monster!'"

In addition to talking about Punk and Lesnar, Austin and Cormier discussed Sting's career and a possible dream match against the Undertaker at WrestleMania 32, among other topics. To listen to the whole podcast, click here.
