WWE NXT Recap (9/9): Finn Balor & Samoa Joe Team Up, Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic Matches

Carmella vs. Peyton Royce

Royce and Carmella have a backslide battle early, but Carmella busts out and moonwalks across the ring. Royce lands a suplex for two, then goes to the chinlock. Carmella fights back and hits the Edge-O-Matic for two, then she goes to the chinlock. Royce lands a dropkick, but Carmella applies the triangle choke for the win.

Winner: Carmella via submission (Triangle chokes)

- Samoa Joe asks if Finn Balor is ready for tonight's match against Lucha Dragons. Joe makes sure Balor doesn't forget his title.

- We get highlights of other first round Dusty Rhodes Classic matches, including Enzo & Cass over Dawkins & Fulton, Dash & Dawson over Samson & Knight.

- Nia Jax hype vignette is shown.

Dusty Rhodes Memorial Tag Team Classic
Tyler Breeze & Bull Dempsey vs. Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano

Breeze arm drags Ciampa and brags, but gets slapped in the face and tags out. Bull drops Ciampa, and both tag out. Gargano hits a neckbreaker on Breeze, but can't arm drag or body press Dempsey. Instead he hits an enziguri and tags to Ciampa, who lands a knee as we go to commercial. We come back to Bull landing some punches on Gargano, which the crowd loves. Bull accidentally knocks Breeze off the apron, allowing Ciampa and Gargano to roll Bull up for the win.

Winner: Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano via pinfall

Breeze attacks Bull Dempsey after the match.

- Lucha Dragon are backstage, and say that they'll win the Dusty Rhodes Tag Classic. They tell Balor & Joe to not underestimate them.

- Dana Brooke says that she doesn't like that people think she's taking the short road to the top. She declined an invitation to the Spain Arnold Classic to be there, and she says play time is over.

- We see a Tye Dillinger "Perfect 10" vignette.

Billie Kay vs. Dana Brooke

Kay grabs a headlock and goes right back to it repeatedly as Dana tries to break out. Dana busts out and goes at Kay in the corner, doing a handstand boot choke, then a handstand splash, both of which made no sense. Dana then goes to a headscissors, but almost gets rolled up.

Kay fights back with clotheslines and a huracanrana, which set up a big kick. Dana Brooke blasts her and lands the sitout fireman's carry slam.

Winner: Dana Brooke via pinfall (Whiplash)

- Apollo Crews is backstage, and calls his fans the Apollo Nation. He says they'll take over NXT.

- A video is shown of Bayley's fan Izzy reacting to Bayley winning the NXT title, and getting a tour of the Performance Center with Bayley.

Finn Balor & Samoa Joe vs. Lucha Dragons

Sin Cara grabs a headlock, but gets dropkicked. Kalisto is sent outside the ring, and Sin Cara eats a Slingblad and enziguri. Balor then flips to the outside before the commercial.

We come back to see the Dragons working over Balor, with them landing a nice catapult 450 on Balor. Joe gets the hot tag and goes crazy on the Lucha Dragons, before Cara hit a tornado DDT. Cara follows up with a springboard moonsault on Balor. Cara then hits a suicide dive on Balor while Kalisto hits a huracanrana on Joe.

Joe flattens Kalista with a uranage, then a Muscle Buster. Coup de Grace from Balor finishes it.

Winners: Samoa Joe & Finn Balor via pinfall (Coup de Grace)
