Roman Reigns On Thinking Daniel Bryan Was Taking His Spot, If He Was Told He Was Winning Title, More
On episode 52 of Sam Roberts' Wrestling Podcast, WWE's Roman Reigns talked about his WrestleMania 31 main event match against Brock Lesnar. Specifically, Reigns admitted that he did not know whether he was originally planned to walk out of WrestleMania as WWE World Heavyweight Champion. According to Reigns, he believed he was going to be taken out of the WrestleMania 31 main event after being booed at this year's Royal Rumble. Also, Reigns claimed that he did not tell Lesnar prior to their match that he was going to hit him as hard as he could.
During the interview, Reigns said he was never told by WWE brass that he was going to win the WWE World Heavyweight Championship at WrestleMania 31, nor did he ask anyone responsible for such decisions if that was the case.
"[I] didn't talk to anybody pretty much until the day of [WrestleMania 31]. I mean, I had an idea of what we needed to do and things like that, but I didn't have a finish or anything like that."
Moreover, Reigns claimed that he truly believed he was going to be taken out of the WrestleMania 31 main event in favor of crowd favorite Daniel Bryan.
"I just felt like Bryan and his momentum and it was just going to happen to me and then we went into [WWE] Fastlane [2015]," Reigns admitted. "I don't believe in just one guy. I don't! I'm a team guy. I'm a football guy. That's the background I come from."
When asked whether he talked to Lesnar prior to their WrestleMania 31 match about not pulling any punches, Reigns said that he never told Lesnar that he was going to hit him as hard as he could.
"You don't talk about that. It's WrestleMania. It's Brock Lesnar," Reigns continued. "He threw me around like a rag doll just like he does and I hit hard and I hit often just like I do. It was really neat and if we never do it again, I'm happy with that. I'm happy with that. My body finally feels okay from that, but it took a while, man. It really did."
