Tyler Breeze Talks Upgrading His Gimmick With More Tech, Putting Over Jushin Liger And Apollo Crews
Recently on Sam Roberts' Wrestling Podcast, Roberts and television tech expert Katie Linendoll interviewed WWE's Tyler Breeze. During the interview, Breeze talked about his role in NXT and whether he has some new ideas to add to his presentation.
According to Breeze, he is happy with his role in NXT as a talent who puts over others and delivers quality matches. Breeze said that he sees putting over other wrestlers as an opportunity to show what he can do.
"You could really look at it from a couple of different perspectives. [The way] I like to look at it, basically, is those are opportunities. Anytime they are going to say, 'hey, we're going to put you on NXT [TakeOver]: Brooklyn in front of 16,000 people with a legend like Jushin Thunder Liger,' it's not like you're going to be like, 'ah, damn!' That's something that's really cool that nobody before me got to wrestle Liger in a WWE ring. I'm the only person and the first person to ever do that, so that's an opportunity for me. It doesn't really matter what the end result is."
As for putting over Apollo Crews at NXT TakeOver: Respect, Breeze stated that showing Crews could put on solid, longer matches was a point of pride for him.
"Crews is someone who nobody has really seen a lot of him yet. He's brand new. He's fresh to the company and he's fresh to the audience. And the audience wants to see more from him. They want to see him in a spot to [see] 'does he have what it takes to be in a 10 minute match, a 15 minute match, a 20 minute match?' and if I'm the person that has the opportunity to show everybody that, then I kind of take pride in that. That's another opportunity for me too. As much as it highlights him, I think it highlights me as well."
When asked whether he has any new ideas to add to his WWE persona, Breeze said that he has a few things in the works. Also, Breeze claimed that his character will be the one to utilize technology-related gimmicks. Breeze said he takes pride in being the first WWE talent to make use of new technologies and teased incorporating a drone.
"Well, I don't want to give too much away, but there [are] a couple of things in the works. And, definitely, if we're going to do anything with technology, or anything that is basically advancing daily, I'm probably going to be the guy that's doing it." Breeze added, "in WWE and [professional] wrestling in general, a lot of things have been done for years and years and years and years. To find something that hasn't been done before and to do it and be successful at it is a-whole-nother situation altogether. And now, we've done a bunch of things that haven't been done before. Even something as simple as streaming a video from a phone to a tron. It seems simple enough, but nobody [has] done it before and now I'm doing it."
