Dana White On Triple H's Phone Call, Steve Austin Coming To His Aid, If CM Punk Will Ever Fight
Recently on The Joe Rogan Experience, UFC color commentator Joe Rogan talked to UFC President Dana White. White discussed whether former WWE Superstar CM Punk will ever fight in the Octagon, current UFC Interim Featherweight Champion Conor McGregor receiving stem cell injections prior to UFC 189: Mendes vs. McGregor, and WWE Hall of Famer "Stone Cold" Steve Austin lending him support when he called professional wrestling "fake".
When asked whether Punk will ever fight in UFC, White said that he believes that he will, although Punk's debut has been delayed due to injury. As previously alluded to here on Wrestling Inc., White explained that Punk has faced a minor setback, as he recently suffered a shoulder injury that kept him out of camp.
"So what happened was, [Punk] got hurt. He hurt his shoulder and he was f–king devastated. He was going to have to have surgery, but he didn't. He actually lucked out and got out [of surgery] with therapy. And so he went through his therapy and he's coming back now."
White said that he may suggest stem cell injections to Punk to speed up the healing process. On the subject of stem cell injections, White claimed that McGregor had stem cell injections to help repair his damaged knee prior to his bout against Chad Mendes at UFC 189.
"[Conor McGregor] fought the Chad Mendes fight with a really blown out knee." White continued, "he went out to Germany and got those [stem cell] shots. He went to Germany. He's in Ireland, so he just went over to Germany and got those shots and he did some in California too. He did do some in L.A. too, when he was out in [Las] Vegas [Nevada] and that's all he needed. He did that and he did his own physical therapy and he brought the knee right back."
When the conversation turned to professional wrestling, White recalled the controversy he sparked when he called professional wrestling "fake". According to White, the backlash he experienced only subsided when Austin came to White's defense.
"Did you hear when I called [professional wrestling] fake that one time? I had every crazy lunatic pro wrestling fan on my f–king Twitter for like three weeks, man!" White continued, "people were going crazy! I mean, and then there were these guys who used to wrestle and guys that have podcasts and all these things that were on there. And then 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin came to my rescue. He said, 'listen, he said fake, but they don't know the work and the this and the that and he didn't mean any disrespect'. 'Stone Cold' had to save me from all the f–king lunatics!"
White claimed that he has only had positive experiences with WWE Superstars and he has no problem with professional wrestling.
"The people over at the WWE are fans of UFC and any time I've ever had any type of interaction with a WWE star, they are really good people. Really good people, really nice, totally respectful, and really just the best people to deal with, so I have nothing against [professional] wrestling at all."
White noted that following UFC 193 last week, Triple H called him and said that he was blown away by the show.
In addition to these topics, White talked about Ronda Rousey's surprise defeat at the hands of Holly Holm at UFC 193: Rousey vs. Holm, the impending UFC return of Jon Jones, and much more. Click here to check out the entire podcast.
