Road Warrior Animal Says WWE Angle Was Distasteful, Why Relationship With WWE Is Strained
WWE Hall of Famer Road Warrior Animal has had his share of headlines of late, stemming from a shoot interview he did with WrestleTalkTV. In the latest clip released, Animal talks about the disrespect the WWE showed to his partner, Hawk.
In 1998, the WWE ran a storyline playing off of Hawk's real-life issues with alcohol and substance abuse. Animal said that originally the WWE wanted him to play the role, but he immediately refused.
"I thought it was low," Animal said. "I thought it was out of bad taste. That's the thing with WWE, they think they can do whatever they want, and everyone's going to like it. I thought it was disrespectful. Why would you damage the top tag team, and say he's got a drug problem when it's too close to home?"

By that point, Hawk's drug problems were no secret. Despite that, Animal said that he didn't like the idea of using Hawk's problems as an angle on an entertainment program.
"I'm not a big believer in touching on things that are too close to home. There's some things you have to have respect for and leave them aside. There's a big respect backstage. It's the office that causes friction. It was in bad taste," Animal said.
Animal also said that Hawk trashing Vince McMahon may have soured the relationship with WWE. Animal also went on to say his relationship with WWE is strained because the storylines they push are too much sometimes.
