UFC Fight Night 79 Results: Former Champion Leaving UFC, Ben Henderson In Big Fight, Bonuses, More
UFC quietly held another Fight Night card Saturday morning, as UFC Fight Night 79 took place in Seoul, South Korea in front of 12,156 fans. Most importantly, one of their long-running champions may be leaving the company.
Ben Henderson left his gloves in the cage following his split decision win over Jorge Masvidal Saturday morning, indicating that he may be done with the company. Henderson has long said he'd retire at 33 years old, but now it looks more like he'll be testing the free agent waters instead.
Henderson, who sees his contract expire after this fight, told MMA Junkie that he's going to explore free agency, but ultimately wants to retire in the UFC. Henderson is likely to have plenty of suitors, as Bellator MMA is looking to build their roster, Rizin is signing anyone with any name value at all, and ONE Fighting is trying to find a decent opponent for Ben Askren.
Despite an excellent fight, Henderson and Masvidal didn't take home "Fight of the Night" honors, which instead went to Seo Hee Ham vs. Cortney Casey, who took home $50,000 bonuses. Doo Ho Choi and Dominique Steel earned the $50,000 "performance of the night" bonuses.
