Recently on the WWE Network's Table for 3, William Regal, Sheamus, and King Barrett sat down to chat in an episode entitled, "Kings' Court". Among other things, Regal talked about his favorite moment in his professional wrestling career, his Real Man's Man gimmick in WWE, and not taking oneself too seriously in the professional wrestling business.
Regal said that dressing in drag on WWE Monday Night RAW was his favorite thing he did in his entire professional wrestling career.
"That was probably my favorite thing I've ever done in the entire time I've been in wrestling." Regal continued, "doing that was the most actual fun I ever had".
According to Regal, RAW was emanating from Las Vegas, Nevada that night and the RAW Roulette idea came up. Regal was asked to dress in drag for the Las Vegas Showgirls Match against Goldust.
"If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it right," Regal recalled thinking. "I want the full Vegas showgirl [regalia]. I want the thing, but where are we going to get [that]? I want red high heels. Where are we going to get that? It just happened that we were in Vegas. Well, actually, I'm nearly a [size] 12 [shoe], so they went and got me 13 size red [heels], but we were in Vegas, so it was okay. It all worked out nicely."
As for Regal's Real Man's Man gimmick, he joked that the only good thing about that part of his career is that he has no recollection of it. Regal was struggling with his drug issues at the time and does not recall much of that time of his life. Regal claimed that the gimmick lasted a little over a month, but it has overshadowed everything else he has done in his entire professional wrestling career.
"It lasted five weeks. I had a 30-year solid wrestling career in 40 countries and I'd been pretty successful at lots of things, but that five weeks has defined my entire career. And people still sing that song to me every day and I'm not making this up, every time I call the office, and they put me on hold, it's that thing playing down the phone line."
This episode of Table for 3 concluded with Regal offering advice to professional wrestlers. Regal said that professional wrestlers cannot take themselves too seriously and gave the examples of 'Stone Cold' Steve Austin and Kurt Angle, two legitimate tough guys who embraced comedic roles.
"If you take yourself too seriously, you've got no chance in this job. You cannot take yourself seriously. You've got to embrace whatever is given and make the most of every opportunity to make it funny or to make it memorable." Regal added, "[Austin and Angle are] two serious fellas, right? So comfortable with themselves they're happy to do anything. That's the key to it. When you're happy and you're comfortable with yourself and you're not worried about being a top guy, you'll make the most out of anything and make it work."
Also, on this episode of Table for 3, Barrett talked about meeting Sheamus for the first time and Sheamus's belief that they both would make it to WWE.
