Ric Flair On Who Told Him He Was Winning The Royal Rumble, Why He Was Paired With Curt Hennig, More

Recently on WOOOOO! Nation with Ric Flair, 'The Nature Boy' talked about his first run with WWE, which included winning the 1992 Royal Rumble match and becoming WWE World Heavyweight Champion.

Although Flair stated that he remains very close with Ted DiBiase and he called the WWE Hall of Famer "one of the greatest performers of all time", Flair also said that 'The Million Dollar Man' gimmick should have been his.

"Well, [DiBiase] had my gimmick, 'The Million Dollar Man'. They should have given that gimmick to me. I threw enough money around [that] I wish someone would have given me some of their's to throw around."

According to Flair, he was put with 'Mr. Perfect' Curt Hennig in his first WWE run because it was believed that Hennig would give Flair a rub and a little bit of notoriety.

"What happened was Bobby [Heenan] refused to manage me, so they talked to Curt into it and Curt had no problem [with it]. Curt and I got along very well." Flair continued, "at that point in time, I think they thought that I would get a rub from Curt because he'd been on their TV for a long time."

With respect to the 1992 Royal Rumble match, Flair claimed that he did not know he was winning the world title until he arrived at the building the day of the event.

"Jake Roberts told me at the gym in the morning. I thought he was kidding me. I thought, 'how would Jake Roberts know?' No offense to Jake, I just thought, 'how would he know?' And then, I got to the building and [Vince McMahon and Pat Patterson] told me. I had no idea."

As for the iconic robe Flair wore at the event, Flair claimed it now belongs to Darius Rucker of Hootie and the Blowfish fame.

"That robe is in Darius Rucker's basement, hanging in a glass case. He bought that in 1999."

In addition to these topics, 'Naitch' discussed Rick Martel, IRS's work behind-the-scenes at WWE, and much more. Click here to check out the rest of the show. If you use any of the quotes that appear in this article, please credit WOOOOO! Nation with an H/T to Wrestling Inc. for the transcription.
