Why Ronda Rousey Won't Be Fighting At UFC 200, Big Name Released From His UFC Contract, UFN Embedded
- Ronda Rousey has been pretty quiet since her UFC 193 title loss to Holly Holm, but many expected to see her at UFC's huge UFC 200 show in July. As it turns out, she's asked for an extended period time off. Dana White noted on Off The Record that Rousey will not be fighting at UFC 200 as originally planned, he also commented to Yahoo Sports, saying that Rousey's upcoming movie role was a primary factor.
"The filming of the (Roadhouse, which Rousey is starring in) movie got pushed back," White said. "She could do both, but the question is, should she do both? She could do both, but why should she? The filming is in a time frame where she'd finish before 200, but it would be cutting it too close."
- According to MMAJunkie, the UFC has released Wanderlei Silva, who they've been at odds with for years. Silva was handed down a lifetime suspension after running from a drug test in 2014.
Silva also accused the UFC of fight fixing in July of last year, a comment in which he retracted that statement in a Facebook post Thursday afternoon:
"I Was Wrong, apologize. In July of last year, I posted a number of comments on Facebook and Twitter, which included repeated claims that the UFC 'fixed fights' and that I could 'prove it.' I hereby retract any such statements in their entirety as I failed to understand that the term 'fight-fixing' specifically refers to the illegal action or practice of dishonestly determining the outcome of a contest before it occurs. I understand the UFC's reputation would be harmed if my fans and others actually believed the UFC engaged in fight fixing, and I have no evidence to support such a claim. I apologize for any misunderstanding my comments may have caused. Wanderlei Silva."
