More On The Undertaker's WrestleMania Opponent, Sting Speculation

As noted, Dave Meltzer reported in the latest issue of The Wrestling Observer that The Undertaker's opponent for WrestleMania has been decided, and it's not someone on the roster right now. Meltzer was asked on Wrestling Observer Radio last night if that meant it was someone in NXT or if it is someone not in the company.

"Someone who is not an active wrestler is what I was told," Meltzer replied. "Which made me think Sting. I mean, I don't know if that's who it is, I mean who else is there out there?"

Meltzer noted that while Bill Goldberg is a possibility, he thinks its unlikely given his rocky relationship with WWE.

A Sting – Undertaker match has been speculated for years. Sting has always been interested in the match, and even discussed wanting to face Taker while he was with TNA.

"Everybody knows, as far as non-TNA wrestlers, it would have to be Taker," Sting replied to The Phoenix New Times while promoting TNA Bound For Glory in 2012, when asked who he would like to face outside of the company. "Always wanted to have one real cool thing with Taker... The last time I spoke with him is when he was with WCW [when he was 'Mean' Mark Callous]. Teddy Long was his manager and I actually worked with him. We worked a few matches."

I spoke to Jim Ross about a potential Sting – Undertaker match last year before it was officially announced that Sting would be facing Triple H at WrestleMania 31.

"I think Triple H and Sting would have an excellent match, but he's not 25 year-old Sting," Ross said. "He can still have a great match in there with a great worker. Booking is not a real complicated process. It's a matter of bringing out strengths and hiding weaknesses, Triple H would be really good with that. If Undertaker wouldn't have been defeated and had some of the WrestleMania sizzle taken off, Sting and Undertaker would have been excellent. I don't know that everyone wants to see that match now. I'm not as motivated as I was to see it this time [after WrestleMania 30]."
