Backstage News On Johnny Gargano And Tommaso Ciampa's WWE NXT Deals, Second-Guessing In NXT

- As noted, Tommaso Ciampa and Johnny Gargano are now officially signed to WWE NXT after working for the company for several months.

Gargano and Ciampa are actually signed to WWE NXT touring contracts, not regular WWE developmental deals, according to Dave Meltzer on Wrestling Observer Radio. They won't be based in Orlando and won't be required to work out at the WWE Performance Center but they can't work indies either. Meltzer speculated that Bobby Roode will be offered a similar deal while Kota Ibushi could end up with a regular deal like the one Shinsuke Nakamura has, but likely not for as much money.

On a related note, apparently there has been some second-guessing in regards to why experienced talents like Rich Swann and Christopher Girard (Biff Busick) are doing developmental tasks like drills and ring crew work. This may have something to do with the type of deals Gargano and Ciampa signed. Some could make the same argument for an experienced talent like Manny Andrade, the former La Sombra, but he still has to learn the US style of wrestling at the Performance Center.
