Charlotte On When She Realized Ric Flair Was A Big Deal, Her Plan Before Getting Into Wrestling

WWE Divas Champion Charlotte and her father, WWE Hall Of Famer, Ric Flair spoke with Boomer and Carton for CBS New York recently to promote last Sunday's WrestleMania pay-per-view. Among other things, Charlotte talked about when she realized that her father was a legend in the professional wrestling world. 'Naitch' discussed never pressuring his daughter to get into the family business of pro wrestling. Also, Ric had some high praise for 'The Nature Girl'.

According to Charlotte, she only realized that Ric was a big deal when she left home to attend college.

"College. Yeah, because I played sports my whole life, so I wasn't really on the social scene, like, in high school, that's when I started playing volleyball. And, then, I wanted to play in college and I was playing clubs, so, not that I was sheltered, but people knew my dad when we'd go on vacations. Not until I got to college did I really realize, 'ah, I could use this to my advantage!'"

Despite Charlotte's strong athletic background, Ric never tried to pressure her or dissuade her from getting into professional wrestling. Ric indicated that Charlotte had many other potential career paths and she was planning on opening her own gym prior to entering WWE's developmental system.

"We always knew she was going to go to college and finish that up. And she could have gone into fashion design, but her love was fitness, so she started training at a personal training studio, but she was working 50 hours a week, but killing it [as] the best personal trainer in Charlotte [North Carolina]. And so, I had been in the fitness business. You know, Boomer, I had 10 Gold's Gyms, and one of my landlords was going to open a 3,700 square foot facility just for her, to have her own business."

The 16-time world champion had some high praise for his daughter, calling her the best athlete in WWE.

"I'm not saying that because she's here. She's performing at a much higher level [and] she's much more athletic than I ever was." Flair continued, "she's the best athlete in the WWE."
