Kyle O'Reilly Talks Long Feud With Adam Cole, MMA In Pro Wrestling, Best Of The Super Juniors, More
29-year-old Kyle O'Reilly has managed to claw his way to the top of Ring of Honor, and the upper echelon of New Japan's junior heavyweight division. One of O'Reilly's breakout performances was against KUSHIDA at last years Best of the Super Juniors.
O'Reilly is back in the Best of the Super Juniors, which kicks off this weekend. He spoke to Live Audio Wrestling about the tournament, and the huge weight that is put on the participants to succeed.
"It's great pressure to have, but there's definitely pressure and a lot of it. It seems like every match is a build up of immense pressure, and then as soon as the match is over it's a release, then another build up of pressure knowing that another big match is coming. It's just a part of wrestling," O'Reilly said.
O'Reilly's mixed martial arts style has become a signature for the former ROH World Tag Team Champion. O'Reilly has been able to seamlessly incorporate mixed martial arts into his pro wrestling matches, where others hasn't.
"It seems to be the wild west in that regard, seeing what works and what doesn't work. Some things may elicit a better reaction than other things. It's kind of making it up as I go along. It helps actually training in martial arts and having the grappling and kickboxing background. When you have the techniques, it looks better," said O'Reilly.
O'Reilly also said that he doesn't see ReDRagon having the cliche wrestling split, saying they'd like to do something else. He also said that he could envision himself and Adam Cole feuding throughout their careers, much like Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
"Our paths are intertwined, and I wouldn't have it any other way," O'Reilly said of Cole. "We were talking after watching Payback, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn having a match at WrestleMania, and their feud goes back to their indy days. You can't help but to think we're on the same path, and if we are, we're very lucky."
