Ric Flair Talks WWE Brand Extension And If It Is Leading To Triple H Vs. Shane McMahon, Brock Lesnar
On episode 2 of The Ric Flair Show, 'The Nature Boy' Ric Flair talked about the upcoming WWE brand extension. Also, Flair discussed Brock Lesnar's MMA win over Mark Hunt at UFC 200.
While 'Naitch' spoke favorably about the selections of Shane and Stephanie McMahon as the Commissioners of RAW and SmackDown, the 16-time world champion remained concerned about the health of the performers in ensuring that the brand extension is a success.
"I can't think of two better, more qualified people to be running the shows. It's just that when you do the draft, it's all about depth because of the depth chart and everyone being healthy, so, I mean, in terms of entertainment value, I think that's great. I just hope everybody stays healthy because once you start separating all the main players, it's important that the rosters stay healthy."
Although Flair could not confirm that the brand extension is leading to a Triple H versus Shane McMahon match, he believes that it is the natural progression of the storyline.
"I've heard that. I've never asked and I probably should. I probably will [ask] next time I see Hunter. But, to me, that would be the natural [match to make]. That would be the great thing."
On the subject of Lesnar's upset win over Hunt at UFC 200, Flair claimed that he thought Lesnar had the edge after watching the weigh-in. The podcast was recorded before it was revealed that USADA flagged Brock Lesnar for a potential Anti-Doping Policy violation from an out-of-competition sample collection taken in late June.
"I really didn't know what to expect until I watched the weigh-in. When I saw [Lesnar] at the weigh-in, I said, 'Hunt is in a bad place'. I mean, Brock was so much bigger and looked to be in so much better shape. As a matter of fact, I've never seen Brock in better shape. I mean, he looked phenomenal. He dominated. He was aggressive from the start. He is a world class wrestler and I don't know Mark Hunt. Obviously, he's a real tough guy, but he didn't look to be in the kind of conditioning to be in a match, a legitimate fight, with Brock Lesnar."
'Slick Ric' also indicated that he would not make Lesnar WWE Champion again due to Lesnar's limited schedule with the company.
"I don't know about putting the belt on him because I thought there was a void when [he was WWE Champion] because of his limited schedule. As far as SummerSlam goes, nobody thinks more of Randy Orton than I do, but I think Randy is in a bad place."
