Ronda Rousey Update, UFC Champ Sidelined Until December, GSP Watches McGregor-Diaz I
- Former UFC welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre was rumored for a possible fight with Conor McGregor had McGregor defeated Nate Diaz earlier this year. The UFC even had GSP Octagon-side to watch the bout in Las Vegas.
The cameras captured St-Pierre as he watched Diaz score a second round submission victory over the reigning UFC featherweight champion in a welterweight affair. That has been put together now in the latest episode of "Full Blast."
A rematch between Diaz and McGregor is set for next Saturday night in Las Vegas at UFC 202.
- According to a report by Ariel Helwani of MMA Fighting, Ronda Rousey's return to action is growing more and more possible. The former UFC female bantamweight champion has not fought since November when she lost to Holly Holm for the title.
"Nothing is for certain or set in stone yet, but there continues to be increased optimism regarding Ronda Rousey's return," Helwani posted on Twitter Wednesday. "The goal has always been to return in (New York) but it's important to remember Rousey had minor knee surgery two months ago. Still few (months) ago the talk was more if not when. That has shifted November to early 2017 is the talk now, but it's still very early."
The UFC has promised Rousey, a former bronze medalist in judo at the Summer Olympics, an immediate title shot vs. the current champion when she does return. That is Amanda Nunes, as the Brazilian submitted Miesha Tate at UFC 200.
- Current UFC flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson will not be competing again until December at the earliest, according to MMA Fighting and multiple sources. "Mighty Mouse" was forced off the recent UFC 201 card in a planned title defense vs. Wilson Reis after suffering a training injury.
Johnson (24-2-1) is set to defend his belt against the winner of The Ultimate Fighter 24, as the tournament brings together 16 regional champions from around the planet. The series, which begins on FOX Sports 1 this August 31, features Joseph Benavidez and Henry Cejudo as coaches.
