Former NXT Star Thought He Was Getting A Raise When He Was Fired By WWE

On episode 135 of The Ross Report, former NXT Superstar Bull Dempsey, now known as Bull James, talked about his time in NXT. Among other things, James discussed whether being released from WWE's developmental program was a surprise, whether he had a positive experience in NXT, and whether he still has friends with the company.

On the subject of whether his release was a surprise, James admitted that it was. Apparently, 'The Last Of A Dying Breed' thought he was being called into the office to be given a raise when he was told of his termination.

"It's funny. I actually thought I was going in to get a raise, so that was a big turnaround. We had just been off of a UK tour that we did and I had gotten some really good reactions over there. And I thought, 'okay, this thing is finally taking off and we're going to do some good business with this'. And for whatever reason, the decision was made and no ill will towards them and it was obviously a business thing."

When asked whether his NXT run was a good experience, the big man from Brooklyn, New York responded in the affirmative.

"Every coach, I had a good relationship with and I learned something for everybody. And I always told myself that no matter what happens, I'm going to walk away, I can look at myself in the mirror, that I didn't change as a person, and I can know that I took full advantage of every opportunity there."

Among other people, James named the likes of Apollo Crews, Baron Corbin, and Chad Gable as his friends from NXT.

"I would like to think that I made good relationships with everybody even though it is the [professional] wrestling business, so it might not be the case. But a lot of the people that have just gone up, Apollo Crews, Baron Corbin, Charlotte, Becky Lynch, Sasha Banks, all those people. Obviously, guys like Chad Gable, [were] coming up, as a guy with maybe not so much experience when I was there and I was able to be in class with him."

On this edition of 'Slobberknocker Audio', Lucha Underground's Chavo Guerrero was also interviewed on the show. Click here to check out the podcast. If you use any of the quotes from this article, please credit The Ross Report with an H/T to Wrestling Inc. for the transcription.
