Why Cody Rhodes Can't Use His Name On TV, Update On Cody Going To TNA And ROH, NJPW Feud, More

We noted before via Wrestling Observer Radio that Cody Rhodes is expected to debut with TNA soon as he has an offer on the table. He's also planning on wrestling for Ring of Honor but won't be under contract to either promotion.

Cody is planning on working a feud in TNA with his wife Brandi Rhodes (Eden) against Mike Bennett and Maria Kanellis after they recently worked together for Northeast Wrestling. With both promotions using Cody on TV programs, it will be interesting to see if he's able to pull this off as he would be the first. No word yet on when he's expected to begin with TNA but he will start working multiple dates for ROH in December and is hoping to work with Adam Cole. Cody is also headed to New Japan Pro Wrestling to work at least one date, with Katsuyori Shibata, according to The Wrestling Observer Newsletter.

Regarding the indies, Cody has received offers to work with TNA's Aron Rex (Damien Sandow) because of their WWE history but he's more interested in working with talents he's never worked with before.

Cody is still looking to check off opponents on "The List" he published several months back but he is not looking to sign a contract with anyone. The Observer's Dave Meltzer spoke with Cody at PWG's Battle of Los Angeles last weekend and noted in this week's issue that it appears Cody's major goal is to try and make it as an actor on TV. He's hoping the recent "Arrow" appearance he taped will turn into a recurring role.

One interesting note on Cody appearing on TNA or ROH TV is that he cannot use the Rhodes last name. That could change because talks are ongoing with WWE, who is also claiming ownership of merchandise rights to the Dusty Rhodes name, as Cody has been planning a book on his father. Cody has only worked for WWE since the beginning of his career and never used the name anywhere else before that. One could argue that the Rhodes name goes back more than 50 years, long before it was used in WWE. Cody has been using the Rhodes name on the indies as of late.
