UFC Holding Firm On Georges St-Pierre's Future, UFC Cleans House, Cause Of Josh Samman's Death

- The UFC isn't just going to let former welterweight champion Georges St-Pierre leave without a fight it appears. Hours after GSP stated on "The MMA Hour" that he was a free agent, the UFC released a statement saying otherwise.

"Georges St-Pierre remains under an existing agreement with Zuffa, LLC as his MMA promoter," the statement read. "Zuffa intends to honor its agreement with St-Pierre and reserves its rights under the law to have St-Pierre do the same."

St-Pierre had claimed that his lawyer terminated a contract with the UFC after they failed to successfully find him a fight. He said he had been negotiating a new deal prior to the purchase of the promotion by WME|IMG.

- Houses are being cleaned up around the UFC, as MMAFighting is reporting several layoffs have already started. The MMA promotion was purchased by WME|IMG earlier this year for $4 billion. The sale was made official in August.

According to the report, 60-80 people are being let go from their current jobs within the promotion. That will come from the Las Vegas office, along with headquarters in Asia, Brazil, Latin America and Canada. Several high-ranking executives have also been let go, while the likes of Joe Silva and Dave Sholler have already revealed new futures.

- The Broward County chief medical examiner has revealed the cause of death of Josh Samman. The former Ultimate Fighter competitor died on October 5 after being in a coma for five days. He was 28 years old.

The report states that, even though there was no toxicology report completed, the fighter likely died of a probable drug overdose. Troy Kirkingburg, who was found dead at the scene with Samman, had heroine, cocaine and ethanol in his toxicology report.

Craig Mallak, who oversaw the process, told MMAFighting that no toxicology report could be performed on Samman because he was in the hospital for several days before passing and there was no specimen to test.
