Backstage Talk On Who Was Blamed For The WWE Hell In A Cell Main Event Finish Not Getting Over

According to a WWE creative source via The Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Vince McMahon believes the ending to Sasha Banks vs. Charlotte at WWE Hell In a Cell did not get over because the finish was messed up, which was blamed on Banks, not because the wrong Superstar won.

Sasha was reportedly supposed to go through the table and get pinned with Charlotte's Natural Selection. Charlotte tried twice but Banks did not go through the table, which really wasn't anyone's fault.

Regarding the internal reaction, there were some people sympathetic to Sasha as she would have risked getting big backstage heat if she kicked out as an impromptu reaction to the table not breaking, plus there's the question of how they would have finished the match going from there on their own.

One source noted to The Observer that the referee should have directed them in some way or told Charlotte to at least use the tights for a win. There was also a feeling that Flair should have been more celebratory over winning back the RAW Women's Title.

As noted, Vince was all the way behind changing the match to Charlotte winning and there's been no regret since.
