WWE Releases James Ellsworth

WWE announced today that they have released James Ellsworth:

WWE has come to terms on the release of WWE Superstar James Ellsworth. WWE wishes Ellsworth the best in all of his future endeavors.

Ellsworth first worked for WWE as an enhancement talent against Braun Strowman in July of 2016. Ellsworth gained a cult following after the match, which led to him making more appearances for the company that fall. He officially signed a WWE contract last November.

Ellsworth was being used as a comedy valet for Carmella and most recently appeared in her corner on the SmackDown leg of the U.K. tour, that concluded last week, where he took beatings by the other SmackDown female talents each night. His last televised match was only last week on SmackDown Live, where he lost to Becky Lynch via submission. Before his loss to Lynch, he had only wrestled a handful of times this year, with his last match being in May.
