Tonight features Triple H addressing the future of the NXT Championship after Tommaso Ciampa sustained a neck injury.

- The show kicks off with Triple H heading to the ring with the NXT Championship. He gets on the mic, talks up NXT a bit, says dreams can become possibilities in NXT. He says those dreams can end at any moment though, that is the reality. He initially was there to announce NXT Champion Tommaso Ciampa vs. Johnny Gargano at NXT TakeOver: New York, but Ciampa needed neck surgery and had to relinquish the title. Gargano will still compete for the title and his opponent will be the winner of tonight's 5-way match: Ricochet vs. Adam Cole vs. Aleister Black vs. Velveteen Dream vs. Matt Riddle. Gargano versus the winner will be a 2-out-of-3 falls match for the title.

- Backstage, Cathy Kelley bumps into Kona Reeves and asks about his reaction to tonight's main event. He says it'll be alright, but won't be the finest. The Forgotten Sons comes and she asks them the same question. They don't care about tonight's match, they care about their Dusty Rhodes Tag Classic finals match against Ricochet and Black, which takes place next week. They are actually happy Black and Ricochet are in tonight's match because they're minds will be elsewhere.

- Backstage, Ricochet and Aleister Black understand there's no hard feelings, it's about going after the most important title in NXT. Ricochet says he might have to pull double duty with the titles, Black says everyone will fade to black. Dream says the spotlight is only big enough for one man and the outcome tonight is "dream over."

- Footage is shown of Ciampa going to Birmingham, Alabama for his neck surgery. The doctors say it could take up to one year to recover from this surgery.

- We hear from Riddle before tonight's match, he says he's worked his "ace" off to get this opportunity, he fully plans on winning and taking the title at TakeOver, bro. Cole says there isn't a person that deserves the title more than him. He reminds us two years ago at the Barclays Center, he made his NXT debut and in a few week he'll be holding the title over his head.

- Backstage, Io Shirai and Kairi Sane are excited to see tonight's main event. Kelley then asks about their upcoming fatal 4-way match, despite being friends they have no problem going against each other to get a shot at the title. Bianca Belair shows up says they shouldn't even get an opportunity for the title, it should be her, so she'll just have to run through both Sane and Shirai to get to the title because her mindset is undefeated.
