UFC Fight Night 268: Moreno Vs. Kavanagh Results

Welcome to Wrestling Inc.'s coverage of UFC Fight Night 268, headlined by Brandon Moreno against Lone'er Kavanagh in flyweight action and emanating from the Arena CDMX in Mexico City. 

Tonight will mark the promotion's eighth visit to Mexico City, with the last event seeing Moreno beat Steve Erceg via unanimous decision in the main event. Moreno will be looking to return to winning ways, having lost his last bout in August last year, against stand-in Kavanagh, who was himself undefeated in nine before losing in August last year. 

Moreno had initially been planned to fight Asu Almabayev, but he withdrew due to a hand injury. Kavanagh had to pull out of his scheduled bout against Bruno Gustavo da Silva in March to fight tonight. Moreno is a former two-time UFC Flyweight Champion, having last held the title in 2023.

Moreno will be joined by five other Mexican nationals representing the crowd tonight; Santiago Luna will face Angel Pacheco at bantamweight, Imanol Rodriguez faces Kevin Borjas and Edgar Chairez faces Felipe Bunes at flyweight, followed by Daniel Zellhuber against King Green at lightweight, and finally David Martinez faces Marlon Vera at bantamweight. 

The main card featuring the aforementioned fights will follow up the preliminary fights and is slated to begin at 8 PM ET. It will be available to watch on Paramount+ for those in the US or UFC Fight Pass internationally. 

Round one starts and Angel Pacheco answers one for two on Santiago Luna's early stand-up. 

Luna ups the tempo with more shots, swinging left and right hooks before shooting for the double. Pacheco guards well and stands up, resuming the striking exchange for the last 30 seconds. With just seconds to go, Pacheco is dropped with another swinging hook but recovers as the bell rings. 

Round two starts with Luna stalking Pacheco with the jab before following up with body kicks. Pacheco responds with a near-miss overhand and a quick jab before stepping back. Luna shoots for the takedown and tries to get the full mount on, Pacheco makes use of the butterfly guard to frustrate Luna and eventually stand up. 

Luna rocks Pacheco after an exchange with a minute and a half to go, remaining on wobbly legs but recovering against the cage. Luna used a judo throw to get another take down, landing elbows and hammer fists but again getting stood up. Pacheco starting to show some serious bruising in the eyes and nose as round two comes to an end. 

Round three starts and both swing jabs and hooks, though Luna manages to push Pacheco into the cage in retreat. Pacheco continues to jab from the outside as they come across the Octagon once more, but Luna's responsive shots appear to shake the chin more. Luna shoots for the double takedown and gets another one, following up with hammerfists but Pacheco kicks away to stand up again. Luna continues to jab, jab, right overhand, before Pacheco clinches. 

Luna hits a solid calf kick in the next exchange, and Pacheco goes for a takedown only to be caught in a guillotine from Luna. Pacheco manages to slip out. Back up on their feet and Luna continues to work Pacheco's body, following up with a knee to the face. Luna tries a flying knee in an attempt to get the buzzer beater, but the bell rings for the end of their fight.

Imanol Rodriguez starts round one with a strong calf kick followed by a fizzing hook that grazed past Kevin Borjas' ear. 

Rodriguez goes for another combination but gets caught hard by Borjas and drops back to the floor. Borjas rushes him on the floor but loses his advantage as Rodriguez mounts Borjas and recovers. Rodriguez stands up to change position before settling back into a half mount. Still looking for the full mount, but Borjas holds to restrict the movement. Rodriguez makes minimal space for some elbows as Borjas continues to hold and shift his head side to side. 

Rodriguez continues to burrow his forearm against the face of Borjas in search of some concrete space. Huge elbow from Rodriguez lights up the right brow of Borjas. But Borjas does manage to stand Rodriguez back up for the end of the round. 

Round two starts with more of a feeling-out process than the round before. Official time out is called after Rodriguez inadvertently pokes the eye of Borjas. The exchange is resumed and Borjas lands two accurate shots to the face of Rodriguez, but that prompts Rodriguez to up the tempo with some front clinch knees. 

Rodriguez lands a solid right overhand to drop Borjas, following up with swinging shots as the referee ran in to stop the match.

Round one starts with both hesitant to get into an immediate exchange. Chairez delivers two jabs and jumps away from the receipt. Bunes throws and overhand that lands but doesn't appear to bother Chairez. 

Bunes shoots for a single after catching Chairez across the face with a jab, but he can only manage to hold him in a stand-up clinch. Bunes works his way up and wraps himself on the back of Chairez, maneuvering for the choke and firing shots to the temple of his opponent – still standing even with Bunes on his back. 

Bunes goes for another rear choke but Chairez slips it, turning around so he is facing the cage, leaning into it. With just three seconds to go Chairez attempted a roll to get Bunes off of him, and fortunately the buzzer went as it failed. 

Round two starts and Chairez lands a loud calf kick before once again voiding the right-hand receipt. Chairez goes for a spinning backfist but misses, later landing a spinning backfist with a clapping sound. 

Bunes then tries his own but completely misses, allowing Chairez to follow with testing shots. Bunes delivers a headkick and follows up with a jab that wobbles Chairez. He goes for a capoeira kick but misses, and then hits a really low front kick that prompts an official time out. 

Chairez resumes the fight and is bleeding heavily from his right brow. The buzzer goes with both throwing wild inaccurate shots. 

Round three starts with Chairez on the offensive, receiving a body kick for his troubles but riding it through to get some good shots off. Bunes shoots for a takedown and gets it, but Chairez kicks him away and they resume the standing exchange. 

Chairez is stumbled by another jab as he searches for the finish. Bunes starts to call Chairez on as he slows, wanting the striking exchange. Chairez tries to comply but is bothered by the cut and continues to favor it. With just seconds to go in the fight, Chairez throws a bunch of hooks and knees looking for the finish, but the buzzer sounds for the end of the fight. 

Edgar Chairez def. Felipe Bunes via Split Decision (29-28; 28-29; 29-28)

Round one starts with Daniel Zellhuber getting taken down early, only to escape and smile towards his opponent. King Green is fighting with a notably low-to-no guard, simply stepping back from Zellhuber and throwing stinging shots. He shoots for another takedown but rolls over Zellhuber, allowing him to escape from the clinch. 

Green lands a clean left overhand and shakes off a kick to his body. He then runs away with his back to Zellhuber as he tries to land shots, waving his hands and turning into the fight suddenly in an attempt to catch Zellhuber off guard. 

Green is goading Zellhuber while absorbing punches and kicks, returning with shots to the body and still maintaining effectively no guard as the round comes to an end.
