AEW Star MVP Praises Former WWE Wrestlers For Their Financial Advice
AEW star MVP has always emphasized fashion and style, but that doesn't mean the wrestler can't manage his spending. Although pro wrestlers have earned a reputation for being bad with money, during an episode of his "Marking Out" podcast, MVP recalled some valuable advice he was given by some of his fellow wrestlers.
Upon his arrival in the industry, MVP felt he had a better handle on his finances and contract than 90% of wrestlers, but he still felt he had a lot to learn. "I didn't understand my contract the way a lawyer would, but I'm intelligent enough to understand some legalese," he said. MVP then gave a shout-out to former WWE star Jinder Mahal, also known as Raj Dhesi. "Raj is a great guy. Love that dude, and he is sharp — sharp as hell — financially. He's done real well for himself."
MVP also credited a WWE Hall of Famer for offering a piece of advice that has stuck with him. "Ricky Steamboat, The Dragon — he gave me probably the best, simplified financial advice," MVP recalled later in the episode. "He said, 'Divide your money into thirds.' He said, 'Take one third and put that away for Uncle Scam.' He didn't say Uncle Scam, but that's what I call him — the IRS, taxes." MVP then claimed that the veteran instructed him to put the second third into his savings and investments, and to live on the other third. "If you never had money before, and all of a sudden — oh my God — you're making 750,000 a year! You know, like, 'Oh this is big money now!' People want to live on that 750, and that's irresponsible."
