TNA's Matt Hardy Comments On The Death Of AEW Star Andy 'The Butcher' Williams

Twelve days after his tragic passing, the wrestling world is still trying to come to grips with the death of former AEW star "The Butcher" Andy Williams, and the legacy he left behind. But it was only a few days after Williams passed away that his former AEW co-worker, Matt Hardy, was trying to make sense of all this. Kicking off "The Extreme Life of Matt Hardy" by remembering his former comrade, Hardy admitted the news was "very shocking."

"It's just crazy, because it's someone who should still be here with us," Hardy said. "It just feels so strange. And he was such a good dude. He was...just a very genuine, very authentic, someone who loved pro wrestling in general. A guy who was already a rock star, and someone who just loved pro wrestling and really wanted to do it. 

"He was living his dream and riding that out. And it's just sad. It's sad he's not with us. It just doesn't feel right man. Actually, it's a very painful reminder that no one is guaranteed tomorrow, and it's something we all have to live by and remember. No one is guaranteed tomorrow. You treasure every single day you're given."

Hardy was fortunate enough to have been a stablemate and rival of Williams' during their AEW tenures, with Williams and his tag team partner, The Blade, serving as part of the Hardy Family Office. He recalled having both funny and deep conversations with Williams, including one time Williams expressed gratitude towards Hardy helping him.

"One time, he just randomly texted me," Hardy said. "He put 'Dude, every time I'm in the ring with you, I understand the way this really works so much more. Thank you for being great to me.' I mean, just kind of things like that. Just out of the blue man. He was really appreciative and really grateful. And I feel like we need more good guys like that, you know what I mean? That's what makes it so sad that he's not with us now."
