Bryan Danielson Embraces Jon Moxley After Continental Title Defense On AEW Dynamite
Jon Moxley beat Orange Cassidy to retain the Continental Championship in the opener to the "AEW Dynamite" tribute to Pac show, followed then by an emotional reunion with Bryan Danielson.
Moxley made his entrance after the opening ten-bell salute, with a chair and towel set out to represent Pac. Cassidy was emotional throughout his entrance and in the ring, as was referee Bryce Remsburg.
The opening stretch was marked with chain wrestling which Moxley got the better of for the most part. He then followed up with a piledriver, stalling before the final drop to soak in cheers from the crowd, and sent Cassidy from the ring into the announcer's desk.
He threw Cassidy back into the ring but Cassidy rolled out of the ring in homage to his saga with Pac. Moxley thought he had caught Cassidy but then Cassidy caught him with a tope and a DDT back in the ring, getting the first near-fall of the match.
Cassidy got a striking exchange started with his slow kicks on Moxley, and eventually Moxley himself started throwing slow kicks and teased going to his pockets before flipping Cassidy off. They exchanged Brutalizer attempts before Moxley ran the ropes like Pac, dropping Cassidy with a stomp and a Death Rider for the winning pinfall.
Moxley remained in the ring after the match as Danielson's music played, emotional as he came down to the ring. They hugged in the middle of the ring as both shed tears and the crowd chanted "He's our b******" to draw the segment to a close.
