The wrestling world is still coming to terms with the passing of AEW star Pac, who died on September 27 at the age of 40. What made his passing even more shocking was that it happened less than 24 hours after his AEW National Championship match at AEW All Out 2026 against Andrade El Idolo, a match that for as hard-hitting as it was, ended up being the final time AEW commentator Tony Schiavone would speak to the late star.

During a recent edition of his "What Happened When?" podcast, Schiavone and co-host Conrad Thompson were reviewing All Out 2026 and were talking about The Brawling Birds' victory over Divine Dominion in a Chicago Street Fight. They brought up how violent the match was and how all four ladies looked like they had been through hell, which triggered a memory for Schiavone of something that happened during Pac's match that ended up being their final conversation.

"There was a spot or two in the Pac/Andrade match where they went on the outside, and I think Pac ended up pulling himself up at the table right in front of me, and he said under his breath, he said 'Tony, what the hell are we doing here?' And it was so f****** funny that it just...it just hit me as I'm talking about this match. I don't know why it hit me, just thinking that man, that's the last time he and I ever talked."

Schiavone and the rest of the AEW family honored Pac's career and memory with a special tribute episode of "AEW Dynamite" on September 30, a show which Schiavone played a major part in as he was on commentary for the entire night, and helped lead the entire arena in remembering Pac via a ten-bell salute.
