Indie Legend Necro Butcher Signs WWE Legends Deal
If there was one wrestler who fans absolutely didn't expect to announce that they had signed a legends deal with WWE, it would be deathmatch icon Necro Butcher. However, that is exactly what has happened as Necro, real name Dylan Summers, took to Facebook to confirm the news.
He wrote "I have signed a basic legends deal with the WWE. The offer actually came in the day after I walked out of my job. The timing was ridiculous. Now, the door is open for various projects, which have already been discussed. But I'm taking things slow. What does this say about my career ? A man who never worked there. But he worked hard everywhere he went. And still will. I will NOT miss my scheduled shows and most definitely will NOT be making any apology videos or speeches. I've worked hard, both for myself and for my fans. Nothing was more important to me than credibility and believability. I hope this leads to more opportunities for guys who never got that call to the big time. This is OUR reward. Let's enjoy this together."
Mike Johnson of PWInsider later followed up with WWE sources who confirmed that Necro had indeed signed what is commonly known within the company as a "nostalgia agreement." Necro had recently come back into the spotlight thanks to VICE's "Dark Side of the Ring," where his 2005 match with Samoa Joe received its own episode and is credited for being one of the best matches in the history of the independent circuit. The episode also detailed Necro's battle with Hodgkin Lymphoma which would confine him to a wheelchair in 2020, but that battle would be one that he would eventually win as less than a year later, Necro announced on social media that he was cancer free.
