WWE's Cody Rhodes Thought Street Fighter Offer Was A Joke
The latest film adaption of the video game "Street Fighter" is set to release later this week, on October 16, and it will feature several pro wrestlers, including Cody Rhodes. Rhodes will portray the character Guile, and he was asked about the casting process during an interview on "The Morning Shift."
"When they offered me the part, I thought they were joking!" he claimed. "I went in for a general meeting, just chit-chat. I was the only one who didn't know, and the next thing you know: Mary Parent walks in the room and it's like — music's playing behind her, Kitao [Sakurai] is on the screen, and they said, 'We love you for Guile! You're our Guile!'"
Rhodes was stunned by the abrupt offer, and he initially didn't know how to react. Because of his surprise, Rhodes admitted that he lied to the production team, claiming he knew WWE would be fine with the time he'd have to take off for filming. "We'll figure it out, guys!" he exclaimed.
Even though he wasn't prepared to take on the role, Rhodes has embraced Guile since his casting was announced, dressing up like the character (including his giant flat-top haircut) for several public appearances and even at WWE SummerSlam 2026. These antics caught the attention of John Cena, who praised Rhodes for his dedication and enthusiasm surrounding "Street Fighter," while rallying his WWE fanbase toward the movie.
