WWE's Drew McIntyre Details Change In Leadership From Vince McMahon To Triple H
Drew McIntyre was one of the first modern examples of a wrestler reinventing themselves after coming up short in WWE. Following his release in 2014, McIntyre returned to the independent scene before making his way back to WWE three years later, where he'd go on to have a dominant run on "NXT" before reaching the top of the main roster. This journey allowed McIntyre to work under both Vince McMahon and Triple H.
"[McMahon] saw things a little different, very much the kind of black and white [mentality] — good guy, bad guy, keep things a little simpler," he recalled during an interview on Bradley Martin's "Raw Talk." "You know, [Triple H] is bit more, kind of [seeing] in shades of gray — which, that's the real world."
McIntyre then recalled seeing The Bloodline story play out, expressing that it made him excited to tell stories in a similar vein. "In 2022, we really started going from Drew the Big Hero of Covid, the Scottish Warrior, to going down the path of becoming a bad guy," he said. McIntyre then clarified that his character was not a heel in a black-or-white sense, as there's an aspect of his character that's just reacting to fans' opinions of him.
"It's been this very fun character arc we've been on for the past four years, because Triple H is very open to making it like real life, and just living in shades of gray," McIntyre explained. He then circled back to McMahon again, explaining what the former WWE Chairman emphasized. "He had a very specific way of how he saw things. Like, keep it like — 'Don't talk about things that happened a month ago, two months ago, certainly not years ago; let's live in the now!'"
